Hello.

Welcome to my blog in which I document my golfing adventures.

Formby Ladies

Formby Ladies

I had greatly enjoyed the other course and was looking forward to playing the inner ring of Formby Ladies.  The clubhouse is endearing in a suburban way with many personal touches you would not expect in a more anodyne club but you slightly expect someone to tell you off for not plumping up the cushions or ruining the colour scheme.  I am not an expert on soft furnishings and don’t normally comment on these things so take what I say with a pinch of salt, but it is probably just what the members want and is designed to attract the like minded.  There is obviously a strong and positive club culture as I am not sure there are many clubs where members can be found on an unappealing morning replenishing the flower pots and keeping it homely.

I used to enjoy watching ladies golf tournaments at Woburn when I was a member there because it is a game rather closer to the one I play than the Bryson or Rory version so I was looking forward to my round

As you might expect there is only one set of tees, all red, and off we went on a carefully routed and plotted course that like the other place has a strong whiff of The Berkshire about it.  In between there are a few very genuine links holes so it stays on the list.  It is not long but is well thought out; corner bunkers to catch the over confident, tight lines to stop the bombers and good greens.  Two short holes 5 and 12 would standout anywhere and there are a couple of good runs of holes like 10 & 11.  But the runs of the less interesting holes ruin the overall picture for me so it didn’t quite capture my heart.  A good meal but, somehow, not satisfying. Sorry
