Hello.

Welcome to my blog in which I document my golfing adventures.

West Kilbride

West Kilbride

In 2019 the club was proud to receive the top 50 slot in the 100 best courses in the UK. This course is set along prime land between the shore and rich agricultural land and even richer houses. It is in a very beautiful position but we had little idea that Arran was within sight as there was rather more vertical water than horizontal.  I suspect the sunny views on the scorecard were photoshopped from the Sunshine State

This is not purely an out and back arrangement although the course is rarely more than 2 fairways deep. Early on the course climbs up the hillside and lusher grasses but otherwise reverts rather closer to the shoreline. There is a double green and there is a very challenging short par 4 number 11 just as you turn for home.

We greatly enjoyed this course despite the suspicion that someone was decanting a pint of water down the back of our necks on almost every hole. It has the happy demeanour of a holiday golf course but do not be lulled into a false sense of security for it is tougher than the card with some dangerous run offs, just a few whins and enough elevation to keep it competitive.  The hole names give you an idea of the character; Wild Cat and Yonderfield as you head up the hill, Lang Wham and Rushy Bog as you head back.  Coming home you have to defeat Flukey Dip and Hunger-em-oot before enjoying Sunset and Home.  A course of much variety and fun.
