9 holes of clifftop links that has to make the cut on the basis of The Rockies. But first you have to climb a formidable hill to the first green to appreciate the position. Great views of town, harbour and sea and one of the finest war memorials you will see backstops the green on the second. Three and four warm you up but five is The Rockies. A par 3 across the cliff face to a half remembered green that might have slid down the cliff face but fortunately stopped just beside the rocky ledges. It is not as if the green is particularly large or gentle. It ducks and weaves like Mohammed Ali. I thought it slightly impertinent of my son to hit a four iron to a pretty small green though we both made fours. And they say it is normally played into the wind. Check the forecast before you go.
There are other dangers; coastal path walkers that must be negotiated here and on the next two as you are asked again to hit up the cliff you have just descended. All good fun. The locals must be pretty sturdy and phlegmatic but lucky to have such fun on their doorstep.
Thank you for a very enjoyable whip round your course with a donation heading to Alzheimer’s Society as promised. You are very kind.
